The 2015 Competition

On January 31st 2015 Delta Sigma Iota Fraternity Inc. hosted the first annual Sangeet Saagar in Talley Ballroom at North Carolina State University. The show sold out 500 seats and raised a total of $2669.40 for the charities Drive Education and Ekal Vidyalaya.

Drive Education strives towards fulfilling the needs of local schools as they prepare their students for future success. Drive Education currently focuses on assisting Wake and Durham County Schools in North Carolina through fundraising events. With the continued support of the community, Drive Education aspires to inspire a positive change in lives of local students.

The Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation is tax exempt, registered non-profit service organization dedicated to education and village development in rural India. Ekal’s philosophy is to take a holistic approach to social and economic development. The Ekal movement is the largest, grassroots, non-government education movement in India, operating in over 54,241 villages and educating over 1,500,291 children in rural India.

The 2015 Results

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Ohms won the first annual Sangeet Saagar!

Case Western Reserve’s Dhamakapella was the runner-up in the first annual Sangeet Saagar!

 

The 2016 Competition

The second annual was hosted in Stewart Theater at North Carolina State University. The show sold out and raised a total of over $5,000 for the charity Sight Saving Academy India.

Sight Saving Academy India organization provides eye health services to underprivileged and impoverished individuals in order to combat the health disparities present in Agra’s vicinity. This 250-bed healthcare facility provides numerous eye health services, specifically to diagnose eye diseases and perform sight saving cataract, glaucoma, macular edema, etc. operations. The hospital also addresses patients with spectacle needs and provides children with appropriate supplementation, booster shots, etc. for early childhood blindness prevention. With just 20 US dollars, SSAI is able to perform a surgery and save someone’s eyesight.
